This past weekend, January 26th & 27th, 2013, the New England LEGO Users Group (NELUG) displayed our first multi-level track layout at the Amherst Railway Society's Big Railroad Hobby Show in West Springfield, MA.

In the past, we've displayed layouts with drop-tables for rivers and gorges.  This was our first time trying to go in the opposite direction with elevation.  In total, we had five levels of table.  Two levels were river sections, we had a main level for our train yard, then a level each for our town and residential area.  In total we had six bridges, six tunnels (one unused), and two long viaducts.

Much of the display came together on site the two days prior to the show.  The viaducts that allowed the train to change elevations was built in place, mostly from 2x4 bricks with 1x8 sides.  The peak of our mountain was a last minute addition when one of our members saw that there was space to bring the tunnels that he had built for a previous display.

Unfortunately I kept forgetting my camera, but I did snap some photos with my cell phone.  Photos can be found in my Flicker gallery: http://www.flickr.com/photos/12534314@N04/sets/72157632613840844/

I also posted a video of the layout on my Facebook page (I think I made this one accessible to the public): https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10200333043599419

We had a lot of fun, and received many nice comments from both the crowd and other folks who were displaying.  It was a great weekend to run some trains!
