A Little Inspiration for Your Weekend

For those of you settling in to do a little building this weekend here is a little inspiration for you all. Hopefully you can find some thing worthwhile to build in these links.

The Library of Congress on Flickr

The United States Library of Congress is making many of it's historic photograph collections available online though Flickr. If your like me and interested in modeling an earlier time period this can be an invaluable resource. Of particular interest is the Libraries collection of early 1930's and 40's color photography. You'll find some great Railroad related photos here as well as many photos of everyday life if your looking for some non train stuff to build. One of my favorite photos is this one of Mike Evans, a welder at the RIP Tracks at the Chicago & North Western RR's Proviso yard in Chicago Illinois.

Shorpy "Always Something Interesting"

Continuing the theme of historic photographs we have Shorpy.com. Shorpy is vast collection of historic photographs from the dawn of photography right up to the 1950's. And of course Shorpy has a great collection of railroad related content to keep us train fans busy browsing for quite a while. One photo that I love is this photo of Hanover Junction Pennsylvania (I'm a sucker for anything local to me) in 1863. This is purported to be the train President Abraham Lincoln rode on his way to Gettysburg to deliver his famous Gettysburg Address. There is another photo supposedly showing Lincoln himself on the station platform. The station itself is still around and may even see steam trains returning soon.
